Digital Humanities Postdoctoral Research Associate – University of Liverpool

Applicants are invited to apply for the position of Digital Humanities Postdoctoral Researcher (PDRA) to support a programme of research conducted by Dr. Ruth Nugent at the University of Liverpool, as part of her UKRI Future Leader’s Fellowship “Digital Library of British Historic Mortuary Science and Investigation.” The post-holder will be based in the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures at the university, and will work closely with Dr. Nugent and her team. The UKRI Future Leader’s Fellowship runs for four years (1 November 2019 – 31 October 2023) with the option of continuing for a further three years (1 November 2023 – 31 October 2026).

The project currently employs:

  • a medieval research assistant (Dr. Glenn Cahilly-Bretzin) who sources and translates medieval texts into modern English and contributes contextual and linguistic research;
  • a data assistant (Dr. Rachel Swallow) who helps to clean, archive, and prepare texts for the library; and
  • a project administrator (Katherine Foster, MA) who assists the PI with administrative duties;
  • a historical archaeology PhD student joins us in October 2021 who will work with the PDRA to digitise their printed archive of post-medieval texts;
  • the project also has a residency programme committed to translating Welsh-language materials into modern English, and other residencies can be made available for research or collaborative needs that can’t be fulfilled by the project team.
