This online course, run by Professor Laura Albiero at the Centro Studi Santa Rosa da Viterbo, will offer an introduction to the so-called neumatic musical spellings used in the liturgical manuscripts of the Western Middle Ages. Participants will be guided to recognize the different neumatic families, an element that guides the location of the witnesses, to identify the individual signs and their characteristics and to develop a comparative edition through targeted exercises. The course is open to anyone interested in the study of musical palaeography.
