Columba 1500: Texts and Traditions – Royal Irish Academy Lecture Series

The RIA’s Library Lunchtime Lecture Series, in collaboration with Coiste Léann na Gaeilge, Litríocht na Gaeilge agus na gCultúr Ceilteach, celebrating the 1500th anniversary of the birth of St Colum Cille, presents a series of 6 free, weekly online lectures, held each Wednesday 1300 – 1400 IST (2200 – 2300 AEST).

  • 25 August: Timothy O’Neill: ‘The Cathach, Colum Cille and the foundation of the manuscript tradition’.
  • 1 September: Máirín Ní Dhonnchadha & Jacopo Bisagni: ‘Politics, Piety and Poetry: Early Columban Texts and Traditions’; Máirín Ní Dhonnchadha: ‘The achievements of Adomnán’; Jacopo Bisagni: ‘The Latin background of Amrae Coluimb Chille’.
  • 8 September: Thomas Owen Clancy: “Tír, tráig, tuile” / “Land, strand and tide”: Colum Cille’s voice and the poetics of place’.
  • 15 September: Charles Dillon & Colm Ó Cuaig, ‘Colm Cille: Lúireach agus Beatha’; Charles Dillon: ‘Sciath Dé do nim umam: Lúireach Cholm Cille’; Colm Ó Cuaig: ‘Beatha Cholaim Chille: An téacs, a fhoinsí agus a údar’.
